On this week’s episode, Kathleen from Plenty of Sunshine Travel met with Kristen from Hurtigruten. We did an excellent brand overview and looked at their beyond-amazing itineraries and why Sustainable travel is so important to them.

Hurtigruten takes part in a fantastic program called “Citizen Science” This program does many great things but what stood out to me was a super aspect – where when you see a whale, you can log into the app. They will let you know where this exact whale has migrated from, its approximate size and many other details. If it is a new whale yet to be reported, then you get to name the whale!
Seriously… who would have thought that you would go on a cruise and be able to name a whale? That is the best keepsake while on a cruise!
Your accommodations and the food on Hurtigruten are something you will return to again and again! Their food is simply excellent. You are dining in a 5-star restaurant each night. You do not have to give up on luxury because you are out in the elements each day.
Speaking of being out in the elements, Hurtigruten provides you with a parka that is yours to keep, as well as boots, a walking stick and a reusable water bottle. There are no single-use plastics in use while onboard anywhere.
Their expedition crew staff are so well versed in the local area, and they love sharing their knowledge with you. Also, you get to engage with the locals and learn about their way of life.
On many voyages, you can help the crew clean up the shoreline so that when you depart, you are leaving the area better than when you arrived. I love that your welcoming committee when you get to land is a colony of penguins. What a way to be welcomed! I would take that any day! When you sail with Hurtigruten to see the northern lights, they promise that if you don’t see the lights, Hurtigruten will give you another sailing for free! Now that’s a promise! Wow!
